About This Event
On Monday, 26 May 2025, the city of Dodoma played host to a dynamic mini-seminar focused on one of Tanzania’s most urgent and promising development areas—energy investment. Organized under the banner of Nordic Week 2025, the event was led by Norway and convened at Morena Hotel, bringing together a cross-section of stakeholders from government, private sector, financial institutions, civil society, academia, and Nordic embassies.
Themed “Unlocking Private Investments in Tanzania’s Energy Sector,” the seminar explored how Tanzania can accelerate its clean energy transition by addressing policy barriers and attracting private capital—particularly from Nordic partners.
A Platform for Insight and Dialogue
The event featured a rich mix of short, thought-provoking presentations and a moderated panel discussion, offering expert perspectives on:
- Reforms within the national energy sector, including the roadmap of the Tanzania Energy Compact presented by the Ministry of Energy.
- Experiences from private investors navigating Tanzania’s energy landscape—their successes, challenges, and calls for improvement.
- Business opportunities and calculated risks for Nordic companies and subcontractors interested in Tanzania’s renewable and off-grid solutions.
Senior officials from TANESCO, EWURA, the Public-Private Partnership Centre, and the M300 energy working group joined the panel to openly discuss the opportunities and structural barriers facing the sector today.
Smart and Green Capital Vision
Earlier in the day, Nordic ambassadors held a strategic meeting with the Regional Commissioner of Dodoma, reflecting on the region’s potential to become a smart and green capital city. Discussions focused on how Nordic experiences, technologies, and sustainability models can support Dodoma’s urban growth while preserving the environment and enhancing quality of life.
This dialogue complemented the energy seminar, reinforcing a broader vision of sustainable development, innovation, and inclusive urban transformation.
Why It Matters
With Tanzania’s energy demand growing rapidly, unlocking private investment is key to expanding access, promoting clean technologies, and meeting national targets under the Energy Compact. The Nordic countries—known for their world-class energy solutions and long-standing partnership with Tanzania—are well positioned to support this journey.
By creating a platform for honest exchange and collaboration, the seminar served not only to raise awareness but also to spark potential future partnerships between Tanzanian institutions and Nordic businesses.
Looking Ahead
As highlighted in the closing remarks by the Norwegian Ambassador and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, the call to action is clear: mobilize private capital, enhance cross-sector collaboration, and support Tanzania’s energy transition through smart, inclusive, and green investment pathways.
This event marked a meaningful step forward in building a more sustainable energy future—together.
