A Safe Space to Talk About What Matters
As part of Nordic Week 2025, the Embassy of Sweden in Tanzania, in collaboration with UTPC, hosted a live Global Guy Talk session in Morogoro—a transformative radio event designed to open up space for reflection, vulnerability, and honest conversation around masculinity.
Held at Nashera Hotel and broadcast to a wider audience, the two-hour session brought together young men from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), local journalists, and youth leaders to engage in a powerful dialogue on what it means to be a man in today’s world.
What Is Global Guy Talk?
Originally launched in Sweden, Global Guy Talk is a growing international initiative that encourages men to talk openly about their mental health, relationships, fears, and responsibilities in an evolving society. The initiative was introduced in Tanzania by the Embassy of Sweden in 2023 and has since been hosted at universities, radio stations, and creative spaces.
In Morogoro, the 2025 edition focused on themes including:
- Mental health and emotional expression
- Consent, equality, and respectful relationships
- Redefining strength and vulnerability
- Navigating expectations in modern relationships, education, and professional life
Why It Matters
Men around the world often face pressure to appear strong, stoic, and self-reliant—even when struggling. Global Guy Talk offers a refreshing counter-narrative, inviting men to:
- Reflect on their emotional experiences
- Challenge outdated gender norms
- Build a culture of empathy, respect, and equality
In Tanzania, where the voices of young men are crucial to future leadership and community wellbeing, events like this are timely and transformative.
